JOINT HOLY WEEK EVENTS WITH WELLFLEET UNITED METHODIST
Maundy Thursday Agape Meal and Worship- Join us on Thursday April 2nd at 5pm for a simple meal hosted at First Congregational, prior to our joint Maundy Thursday service, which begins at 6. This simple meal serves a tangible reminder of the final meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his arrest. Join us as we eat together, as we celebrate communion, and as we prepare ourselves for the darkest days of our Lenten journey.
Good Friday- On Friday April 3rd at the Wellfleet United Methodist, we will hold a solemn vigil, as we remember the sorrow of Christ’s death upon the cross. This day reminds us of the great mercy of Jesus’s sacrificial love, as it prepares us for the joy of Easter morning. The service begins at noon.
Easter Sunrise- Celebrate the joy of Easter as we welcome the rising of the sun and the Son! We will gather at 6am on Sunday April 5th, at Lecount Hollow beach. Please note: there will be no 8:30 service at First Congregational this day.
OPEN CALL FOR BYLAW REVIEW COMMITTEE
Are you interested in helping to shape and refine how we practice our faith? Our Church Council is forming a Bylaw Review Committee to update our bylaws in light of the formal adoption of the transition from the Boards and Committees model to the Council model, as voted upon at our Stated Fall Meeting.
If you would like to participate in this process, please speak to Pastor Jon, Jim Ziobro, or any other member of Council (Meredith Blakeley, Jen Hill, Paul Cassidy, Rick Nolin, Richard Robicheau, or Betty Steele).
CALENDAR SUPPER
On Sunday, April 12th at 6pm, we will once again be hosting a Calendar Supper fundraiser! We are in need of individuals who are willing to decorate and host a table: one for each month of the year. We will also need those who are willing to help run food, and support the kitchen, as well as clean up. Signup sheets are available in Fellowship Hall.
MESSAGE FROM THE MODERATOR
Moderator’s Musings….
I am honored to begin a term as Church Moderator, and I look forward with hope to our ministry and mission as FCC of Wellfleet in the coming year.
A favorite songwriter of mine, Ray Wylie Hubbard, has a line in his autobiographical song, “Mother Blues” : “The days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, well, I have really good days.” I thought of this lyric last week when I received an unexpected gift. The Care Team sent me a birthday card. It was kind and thoughtful. And it was, and is, a meaningful ministry of a dedicated group in the congregation. The cards, notes and flowers they send touch so many of us, when we need care and when we might not expect it. When you think of the “identity” of our church, you may think of many things; one thing I think of is care and welcome. And I give thanks for that. See you in church….
